08/28/2007 - MOON OVER KITSAP

082807%20Wallpaper500.jpg

FINALLY! The Seattle area was witness to a spellbinding celestial event and there wasn't a cloud in the sky! After sleeping three hours, I woke up at midnight to crank open the roof of the observatory and set up the equipment to enjoy a long, quiet total lunar eclipse from start to finish. More than 100 pictures later, I decided not to go to bed for a nap but to just go to work. It was a long, exhausting day, but well worth it. Equipment used: 12" LX90 GPS Schmidt Cassegrain, Canon EOS 20D, and various accessories.

As always, the St. Wiggles Observatory performed flawlessly. As it turned out, the roof was retracted and then closed again as the moon was low in the sky - imaging was accomplished by dropping the south wall to gain exposure to the ecliptic. Please enjoy, and send this link to your friends so they, too, can enjoy the beauty of this celestial event.

Great shots, Jim
I would be interested in seeing some of the other photos you took. I assume your telescope was of the refractor type.

Jim ~ Awesome photos! Jessa was looking and said "He took those from EARTH?!?" I told her you've got quite the telescope and camera system! I was up too, but don't have these types of photos. We took a few with our digital camera, but nothing like what you've got. Thanks for sharing!

I didn't know you had a backyard observatory!
I need to make one of those.

Daddy,
You Never Cease To Amaze Me. Whether It Is From Doing You "Dad" Duty, To Taking Pictures Of Things I Am Too Tired To Wait Up And See.
I Love Them! :]
